Hello!
I’m Bayeshan (she/her pronouns). I am a mixed-race, multicultural, queer, able-bodied, cisgender woman. I grew up in Taiwan and have lived in the United States for 15 years, primarily in Seattle. Though Seattle feels like home, the core of my heart, soul, blood, and bones will always lie with Taiwan.
I became a mental health therapist after years of seeking my own healing, initially through spiritual practices. My spiritual practices taught me inner stillness, non-judgemental awareness, and compassion that eventually formed the foundation of my work as a healer. Through mental health therapy, I found language for intergenerational trauma, which not only helped me understand my own lived experience better, but also helped draw the connections between interpersonal trauma and the systems of social and political oppression.
Healing to me is both political and spiritual, and the most important thing human beings can do in this life. I believe that healing can liberate us from our internalized patterns of power and control and help us metabolize the grief and rage of living in a broken system. Thus gain foster the qualities and energy of curiosity, clarity, centeredness, and compassion needed to transform the external world.
Outside of therapy,
I find inspiration in the work
of thinkers, activists, and teachers who are blazing the trails of collective liberation and healing. I turn to nature for my own healing and learning because I think nature is the ultimate teacher/guide for how to navigate life on earth. Music and dance are the forms of human creativity that I gravitate towards to help me process the complexity of life. I also find great joy in sharing my cooking with loved ones, in fiction (particularly fantasy novels that get magic right), and in being nap-trapped by my cat, Emmett (who sometimes joins therapy sessions, and likely will block the camera with his entire butt.)
